We are scholars with professional and personal interests in veterans’ issues. We are affiliated with the University of Maryland, College Park in the Department of Sociology and the Center for Research on Military Organization.

kleykampDr. Meredith Kleykamp (@kleykamp) is an Associate Professor of Sociology and Director of the Center for Research on Military Organization. Her research is centered on the social and economic consequences of military service for service members, veterans, and their families. She received a PhD in Sociology from Princeton University in 2007, and has previously taught at the University of Kansas and the United States Military Academy.  She has also worked at the RAND Corporation as a summer associate and adjunct researcher. Dr. Sidra Montgomery (@sidramontgomery) is a researcher at Insight Policy Research. She recently earned her PhD in Sociology from University of Maryland, College Park. Her research interests center on the military and veteran community, specifically issues of identity, culture, and meaning. Sidra’s dissertation explored the significance of the “wounded warrior” construct within the lives of wounded/injured/ill post-9/11 veterans. She also has conducted research with Dr. Kleykamp on the experiences of service members transitioning out of the military and into the civilian labor market. Sidra is a Navy Spouse and served on the 2015-2017 advisory board for the Military Family Advisory Network (MFAN). You can find more about her at www.sidramontgomery.com.
